Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about windshield replacement, rock chip repairs, RV glass, ADAS camera calibration, insurance claims, and warranties at NKC AutoGlass.

How much does a new windshield cost?

For most standard passenger cars, pickup trucks, and SUVs, our replacement windshield prices range from $200 to $340, which includes glass, professional adhesive installation, and our lifetime warranty. Vehicles with advanced acoustic layers, rain sensors, or heads-up display (HUD) interlayers may cost slightly more. Because we operate an independent local shop without corporate franchise fees, our prices are typically 40% to 50% lower than big national chains.

How long does the replacement take?

The actual physical replacement takes approximately 45 to 60 minutes. After installation, the vehicle must remain parked for an additional 1-hour safe drive-away cure time to allow the high-modulus urethane adhesive to reach crash-tested structural strength. Total appointment time is typically 1.5 to 2 hours.

What is "Safe Drive-Away Time" and why is it important?

Safe drive-away time is the minimum duration required for the polyurethane adhesive bonding your windshield to the steel frame to cure to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS 212/216). During a front-end crash, the passenger airbag deploys directly against the inside of the windshield at over 150 MPH. If the adhesive hasn't cured, the airbag will blow the windshield out of the vehicle and fail to protect your passenger. We use premium Dow Betaseal adhesives engineered for a verified 1-hour drive time.

Can you repair my windshield chip instead of replacing it?

If the rock chip, bullseye, or star crack is smaller than a quarter (roughly 1 inch) and not located directly in the driver's acute line of sight or touching the outer edge, we can repair it. Our repair process injects high-strength optical resin into the break under pressure, stabilizing the glass and restoring optical clarity in just 25 minutes.

Will you bill my auto insurance directly?

Yes. We have direct electronic links to all major insurance carriers, including State Farm, GEICO, Progressive, Farmers, Allstate, USAA, American Family, and Liberty Mutual. We handle all claim verification and billing paperwork so you only pay your deductible (if applicable).

Does Missouri have zero-deductible glass coverage?

Unlike a few states (such as Florida, Kentucky, and South Carolina), Missouri law does not mandate zero-deductible glass replacement on standard policies. However, almost all insurers waive the deductible entirely for rock chip repairs. Furthermore, many Missouri policyholders carry full glass endorsements or low comprehensive deductibles ($50 or $100). Check with us and we'll verify your exact policy coverage.

Do you replace Class A, B, and C RV motorhome windshields?

Yes! RV and motorhome glass is one of our primary specialties. We replace both one-piece panoramic wrap-around glass and two-piece split windshields. If you have a split windshield and only one side is broken, we replace just the damaged half, saving you thousands of dollars. We coordinate directly with RV insurers and handle freight shipping.

What is ADAS camera calibration and why is it necessary?

Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) utilize an optical camera mounted behind the upper windshield to power Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Alert, and Automatic Emergency Braking. When a windshield is replaced, the camera bracket moves slightly. Automakers mandate that the camera be recalibrated to zero-tolerance alignment so safety systems calculate stopping distances and lane positions accurately.

Do you offer mobile auto glass service?

Yes. Our mobile service vans travel throughout the Kansas City metro area, including North Kansas City, Gladstone, Liberty, Independence, Parkville, and Overland Park. We can replace or repair your glass at your home or workplace as long as weather is dry and safe for urethane bonding.

What is your warranty policy?

We stand behind our craftsmanship with a Lifetime Warranty on every replacement. It covers air whistling, water leaks, stress cracking due to installation defect, and loose mouldings for as long as you own the vehicle.

My power window won't roll up. Can you fix it?

Yes! Unlike most auto glass companies that only replace glass, we diagnose and repair power window regulators, electric motors, frayed cable spools, and door switches. We carry replacement regulators for all popular cars and trucks.

What should I do right after a windshield replacement?

For the first 24 to 48 hours following installation: (1) Leave retention tape in place until the next day; (2) Crack one window open half an inch to prevent cabin air pressure from popping the fresh seal when slamming car doors; (3) Avoid high-pressure car washes; (4) Drive smoothly without slamming over deep potholes or curbs.
